The announcement

The ECB released its September 2026 bank interest-rate statistics on 2 November. The composite rate for new household deposits with an agreed maturity increased by 19 basis points to 2.37%, while the rate for household overnight deposits was broadly unchanged at 0.30%.

For new household deposits with a maturity of up to one year, the reported rate increased by 20 basis points to 2.33%. The corporate equivalent for new deposits with an agreed maturity rose to 2.48%, demonstrating that pricing differs across deposit types and customer groups.

What it means for account customers

These are weighted euro-area aggregates, not the interest rate offered by every bank. A promotional deposit may pay more and impose a maximum balance, a new-customer condition or an early-withdrawal rule.

Our view: compare annualised rates alongside the term, minimum and maximum balances, fees, tax treatment and consequences of early withdrawal. The headline interest rate alone is not a complete savings-account comparison.
