The announcement

The EBA published its 2027 Work Programme on 30 September 2026. It groups its priorities around efficiency, resilience and transformation, with work on banking rules, payments and digital finance.

The announced agenda includes preparation for the new payment services framework, crisis-management and deposit-insurance reforms, supervisory convergence, and continuing activity under DORA and MiCA. A work programme describes planned activity; it does not make every item an immediately applicable customer rule.

What it means for account customers

For a retail customer, dates and legal status are essential. A consultation, a final technical standard and a rule that already applies to an account are different stages.

Our view: coverage of banking regulation should state which stage has been reached and avoid promising benefits before they exist. Account comparisons still need the provider's current documents. The programme helps readers follow the direction of supervision without replacing the terms that govern an account today.
